Sardis – capital city of Lydia, prominent in Asia Minor.
50 miles east of Smyrna
30 miles SW of Thyatira
Wealthy city known for carpet industry, eventually destroyed by earthquake
Church there was reputable, known as “the place to be” for church but really was dead.
