The body camera worn by New Mexico State Police Officer Justin Hare shows him being shot and dumped on the side of I-40 near Tucumcari.

The man accused of shooting him, Jaremy Smih, was in federal court on Tuesday for a detention hearing.

FBI agent Bryan Acee testified.

Hare's body camera recorded the sound of the first gunshot. Hare then slumps over in his patrol SUV.

The video shows Smith come around to the driver’s side, “briefly pausing as a semi-truck passed by,” before he shoots Hare two more times.

The camera was still running as Smith gets into Hare's SUV and drives about seven miles before dumping Hare on the side of the road.

Hare’s body camera was pointed at the sky when Smith looks down “over him" twice, then get back into Hare’s SUV and drive off.

Smith was arrested in Albuquerque on March 17.

The judge ordered Smith to he held pending trial on federal charges of carjacking resulting in death and discharge of a firearm during a crime of violence.

Smith was driving a white BMW owned by South Carolina paramedicPhonesia Machado-Forewhen Hare stopped to help him with a flat tire on March 15.

Machado-Fore had been reported missing and was found shot in the head later that same day.
