Boiling the frog is a metaphor for the inability of people to properly react to significant changes that occur gradually1. It is based on a fable that describes a frog being slowly boiled alive in a pot of water. The idea is that if a frog is put in boiling water, it will jump out, but if it is put in cold water that is slowly heated up, it will not notice the danger and will die.
