Brutal killing of Mexican mayor sparks anger

In Sinaloa’s capital, cartel violence has claimed over 230 lives, part of a broader wave of violence across Mexico.

On the day of President Claudia Sheinbaum’s inauguration, soldiers in Chiapas mistakenly killed six migrants, while Oaxaca mayor Roman Ruiz Bohorquez was murdered at home.

These incidents contribute to 1,247 homicides in the first two weeks of Sheinbaum’s term, raising doubts about her ability to curb cartel-led violence, Reuters has reported.
