GRAND RAPIDS, MI -- The man who killed and dismembered a young woman in Grand Rapids has been sentenced to a minimum 100 years prison.

Jared Chance, 30, was sentenced Thursday, Oct. 10 in Kent County Circuit Court for the death of Ashley Young, 31, of Kalamazoo.

He was sentenced to 100 to 200 years in prison.

Judge Mark Trusock said he specifically went above sentencing guidelines for several reasons. He said he didn’t want Chance to have an opportunity for parole until he is 130 years old.

Chance was convicted of second-degree murder and dismembering a body. Prosecutors say he killed Young in his Franklin Street SE apartment in late November and then dismembered her body.

Police never found her head, hands and feet. Her torso was discovered in a tarp in the basement of the apartment house.
