Survival Story – Family Barely Escapes the Hurricane Helen Floodwaters Through Their Backdoor

Suzy Hilliard and her 92-year-old mother both lost their homes when Helene caused devastating flooding in Yancey County, North Carolina.

They share their emotional story of how they barely escaped the floodwaters.

The 92 year old woman who barely escaped said she has lived in that area since 1954 and it was the worst she had ever seen and it happened so fast and the water was so deep.

She waded knee deep in rushing water and just barely made it.

What is sad is that they had no flood insurance and the woman said she hopes insurance will help rebuild – I very much doubt that will happen.
