Veterans Personnel Records at the National Archives St Louis
This Inside the Vaults video short illustrates the primary purpose of the National Military Personnel Records Center in St. Louis, MO — to preserve the nation's military personnel files in perpetuity and to make them available to veterans and other interested parties. Air Force veteran and NPRC archives technician Bruce Bronsema demonstrates how veterans can request copies of their records with a simple online application, available at http://www.archives.gov/veterans/military-service-records.
As the video details, NPRC receives 4,000 to 5,000 requests each day for military personnel records. According to Director Scott Levins, the NPRC responds to 90 percent of those requests within 10 days. Levins leads viewers through the process from beginning to end, showing where the records are stored and how they are retrieved and copied before being mailed to requestors.
Inside the Vaults includes highlights from the National Archives in the Washington, DC, area and from the Presidential libraries and regional archives nationwide. These shorts present behind-the-scenes exclusives and offer surprising stories about the National Archives treasures. See more from Inside the Vaults at http://bit.ly/LzQNae.
