In the FDA’s recent meeting of the Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee, microbiologist Stanley Perlman asks BARDA’s Christine Oshansky what happens if the U.S.’s growing stockpile of new bird flu vaccines turns out not to match any real-life bird flu strains.

After Oshansky’s response, the meeting’s conductor Hana El Sahly, who in the past recused herself from similar FDA committees due to her Moderna-related conflicts of interest, gives the single-best synopsis we think we’ve heard all year. Maybe all decade.
