A Jeweled Love

You pulled me in and smiled "You'll never leave"
One kiss from your lips and I forgot how to breathe
I was asking for answers, but all that you gave me were clues
I'd been down a road that led back on itself
By the time that I'd found you you were somebody else
I skipped thru' your diary, looking for a name I could use

Your eyes shone like diamonds reflecting the sun
Wherever your gaze fell a new spell was spun
You whispered "Don't chase illusions - what will you have when they break?"
Memory's fickle, but it felt right to me
If I look back tomorrow, what would I see?
Deceit and delusion, or a hand reaching out of the lake?

You descended a ladder, hung from a star
Wise men knew then who you really are
They clung to your smile like the drowning clutch at a straw
You only glide, you never walk
The deaf pause to listen when you start to talk
I mused "Surely such beauty defies all Heaven's laws?"

I'd buy you a second with the rest of my life
You colour the lands where darkness is rife
The cards spell your name, and the nightingale sings it at dawn
We met in the rain on the bridge of desire
"What do you see?" you politely enquired
I said "A vision of pulchritude that only God's hand could have drawn"

She told me "Love is a jewel of the purest kind"
"Flawless, majestic, that all seek to find"
"It cannot be bought, stolen, be traded or lent"
"Recall this please when you next think of me"
"Each of us answer to our own destiny"
"Emotions are priceless; ensure that all yours are well spent"

The freedom bell chimed in the depths of my heart
The past turned to dust and time fell apart
I gave her a rose, and a locket containing a dream
"These two are twins, and you are their third"
She raised a brow upon receipt of those words
"Remember," she said, "only sing me songs you truly mean"

Fraudsters pursued her wherever she went
In meretricious gifts puce offers were sent
She'd sigh at their efforts, and leave them to flail in her wake
Did I know her an instant, or an eternity?
Is it back on the trail, or still yet to be
Whatever she boons me, my soul will be grateful to take...
