The Man Who Laughs (1928)

Directed by Paul Leni, is a silent horror film based on Victor Hugo's novel of the same name. The film stars Conrad Veidt as Gwynplaine, a disfigured man who bears a permanent smile carved into his face, a result of a cruel punishment inflicted upon him in childhood.
