John Kerry: Climate is the matter of health

"So my friends, we can win this battle. We came out of Glasgow and Sharm El-Sheikh with the IEA telling us that if we did everything that was promised, we would actually hold the Earth's temperature increase to 1.8 degrees out of Glasgow, 1.7 degrees out of Sharm El-Sheikh. And if we do what is necessary in Dubai in December, we could perhaps get close to the 1.5 degrees. It is doable. It's hard. It's really hard. And it's being made harder by the day by all of this new gas and oil and fossil fuel burning that is taking place despite the realities that we face. But we can change this. I know this. I've seen that kind of change happen previously and we have now got more venture capital money moving into green hydrogen, battery storage, direct air carbon capture, carbon capture storage and utilization, the possibilities of new energy coming from sources that we've never been able to tap like fusion, small modular nuclear reactors, things are happening. And you all, each and every one of you can frankly provide the best testimonials of all to move public people to take the action that we need, because you can tell the stories of real people and of the suffering that takes place because we refuse to make the most obvious choices. So thank you for gathering to consider this connection of climate and health. It is the connection. Climate is the matter of health, and health is always going to be impacted by what happens to our climate."
