20240505 065820 Tux Greeting Before Weighing and Feeding

This morning I brought my setup to give #Tux his roughly-weekly weighing. It took me a few tries in previous weeks to do this that were failures. At home there was a basket that I could put him in and then put that on the scale to weigh him, and he'd be calm enough to get a good reading. After trying a few different substitutes, I found that it was possible to put him in a transparent plastic crate through which I could read the display on the scale under it. I had tried smaller storage totes and they were too small to contain him without him easily being able to step out. A large clam-shell type crate is deep enough that it's hard enough to get out than you can block him from leaving and squirming around to get a decent reading. It's not trivial, but generally works OK. Plus, both the crate and the scale are light enough to carry the 0.75 mile walk to visit him in the morning.
