(Avoiding being attention seekers, soft boasters)
Text: Ps 34:2

Objective: that the brethren may not be attention seekers like our current world is,
And also avoid the its consequences

Intro:
Define – Boasting, attention seeking, pomp
Worldly and biblical examples

Reasons why we should avoid being boasters
1. It’s wicked/evil - Psalms 10:3a, James 4:16
2. It encourages covetousness - Psalms 10:3b
3. The Lord hates it - Psalms 10:3c
• Ultimately, it is against the Lord, maker of all things - Ezekiel 35:13
• In the list of the worst sins - Romans 1:30, 2Timothy 3:2
4. It Places your confidence in the wrong things/matter – especially worldly riches
• Soul winning - Psalms 49:6-8
• Reason and mercy - Romans 2:17, Romans 2:23

5. It is almost always associated with sin and pride – “mighty” - Psalms 52:1
• Psalms 94:4, Psalms 97:7 – idolatry!, Proverbs 20:14 – taking advantage
6. You’re not sure of many things, yea, anything - Proverbs 27:1
• You do not determine a lot of things – God is! - Isaiah 10:15 – axe
• Romans 11:18
7. It leads to failure - Acts 5:36
8. It means and amounts to nothing - Romans 3:27
9. It leads to Imbalance
• 2Corinthians 10:13,15 – be mindful of measures – self, others, etc.
• V.16 – credit grabbing
• 2Corinthians 11:16 – little – proper (see finale)
• James 3:5 – great, great
10. It Leads to False beliefs - Ephesians 2:9

Psalms 34:2 My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: the humble shall hear thereof , and be glad.
