Team America: World Police is a satire of action films, American militarism and foreign policy and the liberal response to it. Though film executives reportedly expected the puppet film to be relatively cheap and simple to produce it eventually cost $32 million and featured incredibly intricate and sophisticated sets and puppetry. On release it received generally positive reviews from critics but was only a modest success at the box office, grossing just over $51 million worldwide though it went on to be a much quoted fan favorite when released on dvd.
