New Trainers & Senior Clients
For your humble vagabond, Generation X begins in 1961 because the first book written on Generational History tagged the Baby Boom from 1943 (when population began to increase) to 1961, when it started to wane. There aren't really "generations" but there are demographics... but I digress, (before I ever got started.)
What I'm getting at is the median age in the United States is 38 (when last checked). The largest cohort group(s) in the history of the United States have 50+ years of life. Recent events have inspired survivors to "get in shape." Just about twenty years ago when I got into the fitness game, it was predicted to be one of the fastest growing "industries." As with any rapidly growing industry it spurs innovation, experimentation and of course, fraud. Your get-fit-quick type operations. When I got certified, a good deal of the ladies I was training were studying exercise science, or pharmacy "sciences." Fast forward to today and look how this has turned out. (One of my 19 year old students just celebrated her 3oth birthday.)
Americans aren't in generally better condition than they were when I decided to take my fat ass into the gym and change everything, (as it turned out), in 1996.
Today, in Workout Wednesday we started going on about new, young fitness trainers (we picked 25 years), taking on clients at least twice their age, and what issues might be met. We didn't get to the surmounting those issues part.
Boomers want to live forever, I can't even imagine someone born 1960-67 having never exercised before. After all, it was a requirement in public school, and there was sports, scouts & military and the aerobic 80s, (1980s) that is. But it's possible. A more likely scenario is that a 40-something (born 1980s to mid 80s Millennials) will come into the gym having never trained before wanting to get in shape for some quasi-MMA street fighting techniques - or body building.
Anyway, Millennials and Gen-Z are, in my opinion two of the least fit, weakest (generally speaking) generations ever produced by this nation. So the 25 years trainer & 50 years client scenario is interesting to me. However, I have only observational experience in this. You must watch today's episode to get the goods.

YouTube: [The Gymmy Jamm Season 10] Functional Fall. Deadlifting is still a thing, however we sustained what we deemed a nerve injury that we are still recovering from. (We know the difference between nerve ache & muscle soreness, we think.) Our Autumn plan is for more dynamic movement, rotation, jump training, body weight work. Still working towards strength & power via lifting, but also isometric holds, balance, dead hangs, and various assisted moves. Still working towards, muscle ups, plange, front lever, pistol squats and a few more gymnastic moves. The work is beneficial even if it takes us "forever" to hit those moves. I can feel some dormant muscles activate upon attempting various moves & positions.
