Recently, they lowered the “target” of blood pressure readings leading to an increase in high blood pressure diagnoses and therefore more prescriptions for B/P medications. Another example of this was just published on a medical website. As it turned out, one in five older adults who received Medicare “Annual Wellness Visits”, or AWV’s, weren't really well at all. A full 21% of them were found to have “mild cognitive impairment!” As the article points out, new Alzheimer’s drugs “have increased pressure on physicians to evaluate cognitive changes…” On Monday from 3-4PM Central Time, I will share some fascinating studies with you that clearly, yet subtlety, indicate that over-diagnoses and over-treatment may be occurring much more broadly than we are currently aware of.
