Scott: “Congressman, give us your assessment. How is your area doing?”
WALTZ: “Thank you. The hurricane exited over my district. Meaning you got really intensive flooding. In fact, it hasn’t even peeked yet. We expect it to peak this week as that water flows from south to north trying to exit into the ocean. And then we get a one or two punch as it exits off the East Coast and the wind whips around and hits the ocean. I will tell you, Jon, I toured some of our most flooded areas with Senator Scott today, our Volusia County, lake county sheriff, and local officials. There is extensive damage for sure. One of the issues I don’t think is getting enough attention are our farmers, agriculture is Florida’s number two industry behind tourism. President Trump took care of our farmers because he block-granted the money down to the states, meaning the Department of Agriculture just pushed it out to our state locals for our farmers whose fields are flooded, crops destroyed, even a lot of their livestock isolated, they cannot get to them to keep them, they keep them fed. Right now, under President Biden, the USDA, the Department of Agriculture is holding that money, is not dispersing it as fast as they should in our opinion. Senator Scott spoke to President Biden about it and he plans to speak to him about it again tomorrow when he visits Florida. They need to let that money go, get in the hands of our state locals that can get it out to our farmers. 30% of the nation’s food supply comes through Florida’s ports in the winter and obviously, the clock is ticking.”
