Amazonian Shaman Reveals Ancient Plant Medicine Wisdom: Sananga

Uchu Sananga, the Stinging Teacher (not to be confused with Chiric Sanango, The Itchy Teacher, or Lobo Sananga, a tree species that bears edible fruit, and that has slightly different applications), is a beautiful jasmin species, Tabernaemontana Undulata. Discovered by the remote Matse tribe near the Peru/Brazil border, deep in the Amazon, it's use has spread to numerous other Amazonian tribes. In the course of it's travels, sananga was eventually integrated into ayahuasca ceremonies, where drops are plced in the eyes. This causes intense pain, but that pain is compensated for with enhanced visuals, and a feeling of the individual's soul being cleansed. It is indescribably beautiful.

Aside from this relatively recent adaptation as an ayahuasca ally plant, Sananga was used to enhance vision while hunting, to dissolve panema (a sort of energetic blockage that causes one to feel lazy, and unmotivated), to treat snakebite, and the flowers made into an aphrodisiac.

Sananga is mostly associated with eyedrop applications; the Matses also drink it, often with kambo. Carlos, the Matses healer that is interviewed in this video mentioned this practice to me, and I asked him if I could try it. That experience is included in this video. Also, Carlos very generously shared some of his tribes beliefs, lifestyle, and plant medicine wisdom. Dont forget to subscribe to catch pt 2, where Carlos tells the story of the Matses first contact with the outside world, when he was 5.
