God's Looking for Clean Freaks – Deut. Chpt. 14

The Old Testament Jewish law is is filled with peculiarities that make little sense to the modern mind. The laws regarding clean and unclean animals are a great example. We read them with a tendency to dig too deeply into God's motivations. At least in Deut. chpt. 14, God's tells us exactly why he is instituting this particular set of laws.

In simple, easy-to-understand terms, God is looking for clean freaks. Not in the sense that we define it today, but in the sense of people willing to go to great lengths to avoid spiritual uncleanness. As for why God distinguishes between the clean and unclean, it has nothing to do with human health, disease, or high cholesterol. God's motivation is to make his people different; to make them peculiar in the eyes of the world.
