It is 78 years ago that those found guilty at the Nuremberg Trials were executed. The trial was a farce and all the top legal brains thought it so, but in other defeated nations such as Italy there wasn’t even the charade of a trial, the leaders with the approval of Churchill were killed without ceremony. In fact there would be few war crimes listed in the indictment at Nuremberg of which one or the other of the four prosecuting powers was not itself already guilty.

In the cause of defeating Adolf Hitler civilian populations had been burned and blasted, murdered, brutalized, intimidated, deported and enslaved; wars of aggression had been launched, neutral countries occupied by pretext and deceit and the unalterable paragraphs of international conventions flagrantly violated.

Robert H. Jackson, the man who had been appointed by President Harry S. Truman as Chief Counsel for the USA and who was charged with mounting the prosecution of the major German so-called ‘war criminals’ knew this and being essentially an honest man, (but a coward), it hurt him . It damaged his reputation and career for ever.

Using Jackson’s letters and diary and the unpublished diaries and papers of the other principal actors, many of whom he knew — the judges, lawyers, and the “war criminals” themselves — David Irving talks about the remarkable history of how the Trial of the Twentieth Century came about, before kindly taking questions from the audience on a variety of subjects.
