Howdy. Today we will discuss the history of electric vehicles, trying to view the narrative from the angles we may not have been taught in school. We will begin in Scotland with Andrew Gordon's 1744 work "The phenomena of electricity explained". We will advance through the esoteric nature of electric motor history into the time of the first electric vehicles, which occurred as early as the 1830s (or possibly even the 1820s). Specific focus will be on Jacobi's Electric Boat of 1839. We see a rapid progression in magnetic motors after Faraday's 1821 experiments for the Royal Institution. We will look through a slew of the earliest electric vehicles in photographs from the 19th century. Enjoy!
