No More Silence for MP Yvan Baker

I feel vindicated by the fact that I am allowed to speak again in the House of Commons without retracting or apologizing for what I said on March 20th.

I was silenced in the House of Commons for over 6 months by the Conservative Deputy Speaker because Conservative MPs didn’t like what I had to say.

I stood my ground and refused to apologize, because I didn’t break any rules of the House of Commons, because I spoke the truth, and what I said is important for Canadians to know.

For saying something much worse than I did this week, Pierre Poilievre was prevented from speaking in the House of Commons for 1 day while I was silenced for over 6 months. This is a complete double standard.

When I ran for office, I told my constituents that I would go to Ottawa and fight for them. That means speaking for them and telling the truth, even if it is hard and when others disagree. That’s essential to our democratic system and to MPs being able to deliver for their constituents.

I will continue to stand by my principles and fight for my right to speak freely in the House of Commons, because it is essential to MPs being able to fight for their constituents and because it is what I promised I would do for my constituents in Etobicoke Centre.
