Armor of God - Part 8 - Prayer

Though not strictly a piece of the Armor of God, prayer is an important part of our Christian lives and spiritual arsenal. It’s like the straps that hold the armor together and bind it to the person wearing it. Without straps, the armor would just fall off.

Prayer is also like the training a soldier would receive on how to use the armor and weapons he was given. It is our direct line to God who instructs us through the Bible and the Holy Spirit how to equip ourselves against attacks from the enemy. We need to know how to respond appropriately to whatever may be thrown our way.

While we can use prayer to communicate with God to gain the understanding He wants to give us, we must also remember that we can use prayer to help other people. As believers, we are called to pray for everyone, even those that persecute us. Both the Old and New Testament are full of examples that show the power of prayer. For example, Elisha prayed for the eyes of his servant to be opened when they were surrounded by the Assyrian army. The servant's eyes were opened and he saw the armies of angels that were against the Assyrians. Let’s never forget that we serve and pray to the same God that did that.
