Orban called Western countries "hypocrites" - "Western countries buy oil from Russia"
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán accused Western countries of "hypocrisy" during a speech at the European Parliament in Strasbourg on Wednesday.

Orbán was making a speech about Hungary's six-month long presidency of the European Union.

Commenting on migration, he said: "The migration crisis is on a scale not seen since 2015. Illegal migration and security threats now threaten to disintegrate the Schengen area. At the same time, Europe is losing its global competitiveness.”

Orbán then responded to criticism regarding his country's reported ties with Russia, accusing his critics of hypocrisy.

"Since the outbreak of the war, you, the Western countries, have bought Russian oil from Turkish or Indian refineries for eight-and-a half-billion dollars. And you are criticizing us? (You paid) eight-and- half-billion dollars. This is hypocrisy."

"In 2023, you Westerners bought 44% more Russian oil than a year earlier. The tax revenue of your companies that they paid into the Russian budget was $1.7 billion. And you perpetuate us with Russian friendship?" he added.
