In a new trailer for Red One, Santa Claus (J.K. Simmons) has been abducted and it’s up to an unlikely team made up of reluctant bounty hunter Jack O’Malley (Chris Evans) and North Pole’s Head of Security Callum Drift (Dwayne Johnson) to bring St. Nicholas back to save Christmas. The Amazon MGM Studios film arrives in theaters on Nov. 15
The new trailer opens on O’Malley himself being kidnapped. Though he realizes what’s happening and fends off those trying to abduct him, he’s eventually captured and is brought to the North Pole, where Lucy Liu’s Zoe character explains the dire situation: Santa Claus, whose code name is “Red One,” has been kidnapped.
“You’re the best tracker in the world, you’re going to help us find him,” Zoe tells O’Malley. While O’Malley insists he works alone, Drift lets him know that the rescue will be a team effort, which includes a large, talking polar bear named Garcia. The team battle “extremely dangerous” abductors, that appear to include some evil snowmen and devilish horned-and-tailed creepy creatures.

The trailer hints at some hidden portal stations found in toy store supply closets and various toy transformations, including a toy Hot Wheels car being turned into the full-sized real deal, alongside plenty of action injected into the Christmas magic.
The Jake Kasdan-directed film reunites the filmmaker with Johnson; they previously collaborated on the third and fourth installments of the Jumanji franchise. Kiernan Shipka, Bonnie Hunt, Kristofer Hivju, Nick Kroll, and Wesley Kimmel round out the cast.

The project is seen as the first of a Christmas franchise, produced by Amazon MGM Studios in association with Seven Bucks Productions, Chris Morgan Productions, and The Detective Agency.[3][4]
Red One is scheduled to be released in the United States by Amazon MGM Studios through Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures on November 15, 2024.[5]

Production
Hiram Garcia at Seven Bucks Productions conceived the idea for the film,[8] which was developed into a screenplay by Chris Morgan for Jake Kasdan to direct.[9] Chris Evans joined the cast in January 2022.[10] In September 2022, Kiernan Shipka was added to the cast.[11] Lucy Liu, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, J. K. Simmons, Nick Kroll, Kristofer Hivju, Wesley Kimmel and Bonnie Hunt joined the cast the following month, with Ellis revealing her and Simmons' involvement on Instagram.[12][13][14][15] Dwayne Johnson was paid $50 million for his involvement.[16]
Filming began in October 2022 in Atlanta and wrapped in February 2023.[13][17] Filming had to be done around Johnson, who was an average of seven to eight hours late to filming and missed several days of shooting. These delays reportedly increased the budget by $50 million to a total of $250 million. This has since been disputed.[2]
Release
Red One was originally scheduled to be released on Prime Video worldwide in time for Christmas 2023.[18] The release was delayed from December 20, 2023, until November 15, 2024, with the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike cited as the reason, along with the film now getting a worldwide theatrical release.[19][20] Amazon MGM will distribute it in the United States, while Warner Bros. Pictures will handle the film's international release.[21] In the United Kingdom and Ireland, it will be released on November 6, 2024.[22]
Footage of Red One was first shown at CinemaCon to journalists selected by Johnson's publicist, but they were not allowed to write about what they saw.[2]
