Suspect Dead, Officer Shot in an Struggle with Assault Suspect

On July 24th 2024, at approximately 3:30 AM, officers contacted an adult male suspected in an assault that just occurred at a nearby gas station. Officers made contact with the suspect at the intersection of Thornton Pkwy and Gale Blvd. As they were contacting the suspect a physical struggle ensued and the suspect grabbed for the officer’s gun in its holster. The officer struggled to retain his own weapon.

During the struggle the officer was shot and suffered a serious injury. Another Thornton officer then shot the suspect.

The suspect was pronounced deceased on scene. The officer shot was transported to an area hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
