Whitney Houston's mother, Grammy-winning gospel singer Cissy Houston, passes away at the age of 91.

As Whitney Houston's mother, Cissy Houston was a two-time Grammy Award-winning gospel and soul singer who performed alongside stars like Aretha Franklin and Elvis Presley. She also experienced both heartbreak and success. She was ninety-one.

According to her daughter-in-law Pat Houston, Cissy Houston passed away on Monday morning at her New Jersey home while receiving hospice care for Alzheimer's disease, as reported by The Associated Press. Her family was there to support the well-known gospel singer.

"We feel sadness and pain in our hearts. We have lost our family's matriarch," Pat Houston said in a statement. The mother-in-law made "unparalleled" contributions to popular music and culture, according to her.

"Mother Cissy has always been a powerful and formidable presence in our lives. a devout, deeply religious woman who valued her community, family, and ministry. Her more than seven-decade career in entertainment and music will always hold a special place in our hearts.
