After a year of war, Gaza's Hamas-run health authority says the death toll from the conflict with Israel is approaching 42,000 - numbers the UN says are reliable.

Overnight, Israeli airstrikes on the Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza killed at least 26 people. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu insists his country will achieve what he calls "total victory" over Hamas, which launched the October 7 terror attacks a year ago.

The violence has left Gaza's civilians caught in the crossfire - enduring widespread hunger, disease and a collapsed health system.

To learn more, we speak with Shaina Low. She's a communications adviser with the Norwegian Refugee Council and joins us from Oslo.

And we talk to Bart Witteveen, who is the country director for the occupied Palestinian territories for the NGO International Rescue Committee, and he joins us from Amman, Jordan.
