The Story Behind The Most Haunted House in Arkansas

In the spirit of Halloween, the Allen House in Monticello, Arkansas, known as the most haunted house in America since 2008, has a chilling backstory.

Built between 1905 and 1906 by J. E. Allen, the house has been home to numerous paranormal experiences, particularly for its current owners, Mark and Rebecca Spencer.

They reported seeing doppelgangers of themselves and their son, along with furniture moving and cabinets opening by themselves, suggesting a spirit may be attempting to connect with the living.

The haunting is believed to be linked to J.E. Allen’s middle daughter, LaDell Allen, who faced personal tragedies throughout her life.

After losing her son to pneumonia in 1945, LaDell took her own life on Christmas Eve in 1948.

The mystery of her suicide was partly uncovered by Mark Spencer when he discovered 82 love letters in the attic, revealing a secret affair with a married man named Prentiss H. Savage, who ended their relationship shortly before Christmas, as reported by KKYR KICKER 102.5.
