Over three thousand years ago, two armies met on the banks of the Tollense River. Armed with spears, swords, clubs, and bows, the warriors clashed in a fierce battle that soon turned into a massacre with hundreds dead and severely wounded.
Who were these people, and where did they come from? A recent analysis of dozens of arrowheads is helping researchers piece together a clearer picture of Europe's earliest battle which took place during the Bronze Age, about 3,250 years ago, in the Tollense Valley in modern-day Germany.
