Melon Heads have long been reported in remote wooded areas of the United States, including Ohio, Michigan, and Connecticut. According to folklore and eyewitnesses, they are small humanoids with abnormally large heads who live in secluded areas, sometimes attacking people who wander into their territory. They are said to have small, beady eyes, and thin, bony limbs. Some reports suggest that they have long, sharp teeth and claws, possessing incredible strength and agility. They move quickly and silently, making them difficult to spot, and some reports suggest that they emit a high-pitched screeching noise when they are agitated or threatened.

The legend of the Melon Heads varies, according to the region. In Ohio and Michigan, they’re described as originally being orphans; children with hydrocephalus, a medical condition that causes them to have large, swollen heads. In Connecticut, they are said to be tall, thin creatures with pale, featureless faces.

Theories of the origins of the Melon Heads range from inbreeding and genetic mutations to hydrocephalus and mad scientist experimentation. On this episode of “A Glitch in the Matrix,” Jessica and Dr. Dennis Carroll explore the Melon Heads of North America.
