Timestalker is one of the best British movies of the year, and you can now get a flavour of what awaits you.

Vertigo Releasing has unveiled the UK trailer for Alice Lowe's historical sci-fi rom-com, which stars Lowe alongside Jacob Anderson, Aneurin Barnard, Tanya Reynolds and Nick Frost.

Timestalker follows hapless heroine Agnes (Lowe) through time as she repeatedly falls for the wrong guy (Barnard), dies a gruesome death and gets reincarnated a century later, only for it all to start over again.

Her only hope to avoid her endless violent fate is by finally realising she deserves better than this, but will she ever be able to stop being a fool for love?

Timestalker is released in UK and Irish cinemas on October 11, and it currently boasts an impressive 93% on Rotten Tomatoes after its world premiere at SXSW back in March 2024.

The movie marks Alice Lowe's second as writer-director, following celebrated 2016 slasher Prevenge which she filmed while pregnant. As you wait for Timestalker to arrive, you can watch Prevenge right now on Prime Video.

Talking to the BFI, Lowe explained that the movie started as a "sketch that had a f**ked-up Doctor Who thing".

"What if there was a woman travelling through time and was obsessive about an ex? Just when you think you’ve got rid of someone, they pop up again, because they're reincarnated," she explained.

"I've written a lot of films where I'm killing people. I think it's about time I killed myself [on screen] – to make it fair. I wanted to write something that was more lighthearted. Actually, it is still a really dark film, because that's just what comes out.

"I wanted something that was colourful, bright and fantastical. I thought if I get a budget to make something, I really want to enjoy it – make all my fantasies of filmmaking in one."

Timestalker is released in UK and Irish cinemas on October 11.

For me, Alice Lowe has always not only great in everything she does, but the roles also make an important impact. After loving her directorial debut Prevenge in 2016 – and I review here – I was excited to hear about this new project being filmed and the first trailer for Timestalker does not disappoint!

Written and Directed by Alice Lowe, Timestalker hits UK and Irish cinemas from 11 October from Vertigo Releasing, and the film follows ‘hapless heroine Agnes (Lowe) who through time as she repeatedly falls for the wrong guy, dies a grim death, gets reincarnated a century later, before meeting him again and starting the cycle anew… her only hope in avoiding this violent fate is by finally reaching spiritual enlightenment; but how can she ever wise up when she’s destined to be a fool for love?’

Timestalker is written and directed by Alice Lowe, who also stars in the film alongside Jacob Anderson, Aneurin Barnard, Tanya Reynolds and Nick Frost.

Take a gander:

Here’s the newly released trailer for Timestalker, Alice Lowe’s new romantic comedy, to be released in cinemas on October 11.

She plays the hapless heroine Agnes, who, across many time periods, falls for the wrong guy, dies a grim death, gets reincarnated before meeting him again and starting the cycle anew.

Her only hope in avoiding this violent fate is by finally reaching spiritual enlightenment.

It is the second film to be written and directed by former Garth Marenhgi star Lowe after 2016’s Prevenge.

What if you were destined to fall in love with the wrong person in every lifetime? Is there any way to break the cycle? That's the dilemma Alice Lowe faces in "Timestalker," a new dark British comedy about a woman determined to escape her tragic fate.

Check out the official trailer for Alice Lowe's latest film, where she not only stars but also takes on the roles of writer and director. Lowe, known for her work in Ben Wheatley's dark comedy "Sightseers" and the Netflix interactive special "Black Mirror: Bandersnatch," plays Agnes, a hopeless romantic who discovers she's been falling for the same man across multiple past lives. Determined to avoid the inevitable deaths that follow, Agnes embarks on a mission to rewrite her destiny and find a happy ending.

Aneurin Barnard ("Dunkirk") co-stars as Agnes's foolish lover in each of her reincarnations, while the cast also features Jacob Anderson ("Game of Thrones," "Interview with the Vampire"), Tanya Reynolds ("Sex Education"), and British comedy legend Nick Frost ("Shaun of the Dead," "Hot Fuzz").

This marks Alice Lowe's second feature as a writer-director, following her cult hit 2016 pregnancy horror-comedy "Prevenge."

"Timestalker" hits U.K. theaters on October 11th, following its world premiere earlier this year at SXSW, where it received mostly positive reviews.
