The Fist Thanksgiving

In 1620, the Pilgrims embarked on a challenging journey to the New World, landing at Plymouth Rock. They faced a brutal winter and many hardships, with half of them perishing from cold, hunger, and disease. However, in the spring of 1621, their fortunes changed when they met Squanto, a member of the Patuxet tribe. Squanto taught the Pilgrims essential survival skills, including how to grow corn, fish in the rivers, and identify edible plants. With his guidance, the Pilgrims adapted to their new environment. Squanto also served as a translator and mediator, helping to establish a crucial alliance between the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag Confederacy. In the fall of 1621, the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag celebrated their successful harvest with a feast, known today as the first Thanksgiving. Thanks to Squanto’s help, the Pilgrims survived and thrived, forging a new beginning in the New World. Squanto’s legacy endures as a symbol of cooperation and survival.
