To help them attain that goal, John focused on: Being a zealous believer, standing firm against false teachers, and reassuring the Christians that they have eternal life.
John says to not welcome anyone who is deceiving others by teaching lies about Jesus Christ, Yeshua. Welcoming such a person would be the same as partaking in their deception.
Several men in the NT share the name Gaius, a common name in the first century. All of these men were involved in the ministry of the apostles in one way or another.
Gaius of Corinth. Paul baptized a man named Gaius in Corinth, one of the few people Paul is recorded to have baptized. Toward the end of his 3rd missionary journey, when Paul wrote his Epistle to the Romans, he was staying in Gaius’s home, and Gaius included his greetings to the church in Rome (ROM 16:23).
