State police release body camera footage of suspect stabbing Woodbury police officer in the neck

Connecticut State Police released body camera footage Friday of a suspect stabbing a police officer in Woodbury.

The bodycam footage shows Officer Tim Wright and the suspect, 31-year-old Tyler Wilmot of Woodbury, having a verbal argument after the officer pulled Wilmot over Thursday morning.

Wilmot is heard urging Wright to get out of his police cruiser and to “handle [the situation] like a man.”

When Wright gets out of the car, the two get into a physical altercation, and Wilmot stabs Wright in the neck.

Officer John Covello, who responded to the scene, tased and later handcuffed Wilmot while Wright called for an ambulance on his radio.

Wright remains at a hospital for observation and is in stable condition.

Wilmot appeared in court on Friday and is currently held on a $3 million bond. He’s due back in court on Oct. 9.
