This was a commission for someone that was there as well, but, living through it, there was no way I was not going to paint this. The video is part of the way I wanted to express the experience. I wanted to share the day he came back to the very place he almost died at.
I remember hearing the first shots and wondering if it was fireworks, but there was also a whizzing I could hear going above our heads. Then I saw the man in the bottom left bleachers fall and all the blood, then the other two men on its top opposing side fall. A bullet hit a crane that released steam, and it started retracting. Trump fell, and then we all fell. It was coming from behind, so I was terrified we would be sprayed. Awful screams and cries for help in an incredibly vulnerable position as everything was out in the open. I was surrounded by mothers and children. But then it all ceased, and there was an immeadiate change in the air. I could see the secret service snipers and heard the call that the target was eliminated. I was at the railing right by the stage, and there were flag banners ziptied all throughout. Still down, I peered through the fabric and could see Trump down. His head was turned so that I saw his hair completely sideways from the back of his head. There was blood, and, for some reason, his shoes flew off his feet as he came down to his knees. We all slowly got up, and as Trump was dragged and lifted up, everyone was weeping and so concerned if he was dead, and out of nowhere and quite profoundly, he lifted his fist in the air and shouted "Fight, Fight, Fight!" As this was happening I was just beginning to stand up after praying in a circle with people and caught the entire crowd before him release this beautiful elated victorious roar, something you really can't ever explain and will rarely ever see. It was so wild that everyone couldn't believe it after he was taken off stage, and people were still extremely concerned about his condition. All 55,000 of us walked calmy back, though it was roughly a mile and a half back to parking. It was incredibly surreal evacuating, it was such a hot day, the sky seemed to have a strange quality of light after the incident. Helicopters flying over our heads, people weeping and trying to contact their loved ones but the cell sevice was disconnected, people of every type and age, cars everywhere calmly lined up to leave. No matter what happens a month from now, this was a historic moment that will live on in American history, and this is a small excerpt in my account that I wanted to share.
