Does ag exemption transfer when buying property?

Whether an agricultural (ag) exemption transfers when buying a property depends on the specific state and local laws. In Texas, for example, the ag exemption does not automatically transfer to the new owner when a property is sold. However, the new owner can apply to maintain the exemption if they continue to use the land for agricultural purposes.
