The first movement consists of five tutti and four solo sections.
The first solo, illustrating the song of the birds, is a violin trio. The second tutti depicts first the gentle whispering of the zephyr and later a thunderstorm. The birds return in the third solo passage, which is a modified replica of the first solo, while the last solo corresponds to the “zephyr” episode of the second tutti. The movement closes with the shortened opening statement.

In the Largo in C sharp minor, one of the most exquisite pieces Vivaldi ever penned, the solo violin sings an arioso, accompanied by the violins and violas of the orchestra. The soloist evokes the murmur of the forest, while the orchestra imitates the barking of the watch-dog which guards the herdmans sleep. The similarity to the “Murmur of the Forest” in Wagner’s Siegfried is striking.

The finale, consisting of four tutti and three solo sections, is a pastoral dance.
