Exploring an "Almost" Abandoned Cemetery Next to a...Particle Accelerator?

Today we take a deeper look at St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery near Lemont, Illinois. There is a long history here, including a family selling their farmland to the church for use as a cemetery in 1849 and Argonne National Laboratory purchasing land adjacent to the cemetery as they had a need for more space. The graveyard is surrounded by both the particle accelerator laboratory and the Waterfall Glen Forest Preserve. While there is a path to the cemetery, vehicular traffic is not allowed and must be granted permission and admittance ahead of time. It is approximately two miles from the fenced in forest preserve entrance to the cemetery making for a +/- 4 mile hike to visit.

Walk with me as we learn some of the history St. Patrick's and visit some of the historic graves here.
