Peacock has unveiled a teaser trailer for a series called Hysteria, taking us back to the days of the insane hysteria of "Satanic Panic" in the late 1980s. Written by and executive produced by Matthew Scott Kane and David Goodman, Hysteria debuts streaming in October. The original new horror-comedy series follows a struggling high school heavy metal band of outcasts who use the town's sudden interest in the occult to start a reputation as a Satanic metal band, until a strange series of events triggers a witch hunt that leads back to them. So basically a crime thriller meets 80s dark comedy? Julie Bowen and Anna Camp star along with Emjay Anthony, Chiara Aurelia, Kezii Curtis, and Nikki Hahn. With recurring guest stars including Bruce Campbell (Ash is in town, baby!), Garret Dillahunt, Nolan North, Elijah Richardson, Milly Shapiro, Allison Scagliotti, & Jessica Treska. There's not much to this teaser - Julie Bowen dancing and a demon showing up in a microwave. You'll have to wait for more footage before this arrives in October.

Here's the first teaser trailer (+ poster) for Peacock's series Hysteria, direct from Peacock's YouTube:

Peacock‘s upcoming series Hysteria! shows a town in the grips of a Satanic Panic — emphasis on the “satanic” part.

The streamer has released a full trailer for the show, which premieres Oct. 18 and centers on three high schoolers (Emjay Anthony, Chiara Aurelia and Kezii Curtis) whose heavy-metal band decides to lean into the fear caused when the high school quarterback goes missing and a pentagram is painted on the teen’s garage. Their makeover as satanists, however, unleashes forces — both among their peers and, possibly, with something otherworldly — that soon spin out of their control.

The trailer — which greatly expands on an earlier teaser — also shows a teenage girl (Nikki Hahn) being abducted by a creepy masked intruder and a woman (Julie Bowen) being stalked by an unseen entity. Watch it below.

The show’s regular cast also includes Anna Camp, horror icon Bruce Campbell, Garret Dillahunt, Nolan North, Elijah Richardson, Milly Shapiro, Allison Scagliotti and Jessica Treska.

Universal Studio Group’s UCP produces the series, which was created by Matthew Scott Kane. He executive produces with David A. Goodman, John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, Good Fear Content’s Chris Bender and Jake Weiner and Jordan Voght-Roberts, who directed the first and last episodes of the season. Scott Stoops of Good Fear is supervising producer.

The teaser trailer for Hysteria! previews Modern Family alum Julie Bowen and Evil Dead star Bruce Campbell's upcoming horror comedy series. Since the end of her time as Claire Dunphy on Modern Family, Bowen has taken to genre fare. She starred in the romcom Mixtape, which has a distinct attachment to past decades, in addition to the slasher Totally Killer. Now in just a matter of weeks, Bowen will take on another genre staple: satanic panic. Campbell is known for his role in the Evil Dead series, which deals in the occult and his latest series is a return to that.

Peacock has now released the teaser trailer for Hysteria!, which debuts all eight episodes on Friday, October 18.

Hysteria! will also premiere on the USA Network and SYFY on the same date, with the USA Network then airing new episodes each Friday.

What Happens In The Hysteria! Teaser Trailer?
A Hit Song Is Interrupted
Julie Bowen in the Hysteria trailer
The minute-long teaser begins with the hallmarks of a seemingly safe American town, with everybody being friendly and waving to one another. Bowen's character is in the kitchen. She's listening to "Heaven Is a Place on Earth" by Belinda Carlisle, a song which received a spotlight focus in the standout Black Mirror episode "San Junipero." When the lights flicker and her surroundings begin to rattle, Bowen's character is briefly rattled. The character attempts to collect herself, but she's shaken again when her reflection is revealed to be something demonic.

What Is Hysteria! About?
The official synopsis for Hysteria!, provided by Peacock and included below, teases that the eight-episode series begins with a disappearance. Although some of the characters look to take advantage of this, the situation gets far more serious and the 1980s-set horror comedy takes some dangerous twists and turns that do not bode well for the people involved:

When a beloved varsity quarterback disappears during the “Satanic Panic” of the late 1980s, a struggling high school heavy metal band of outcasts realize they can capitalize on the town’s sudden interest in the occult by building a reputation as a Satanic metal band, until a bizarre series of murders, kidnappings, and reported “supernatural activity” triggers a leather-studded witch hunt that leads directly back to them.

Along with Bowen and Campbell, the Hysteria! cast includes Anna Camp, Emjay Anthony, Chiara Aurelia, Kezii Curtis, and Nikki Hahn. Recurring guests, meanwhile, are Garret Dillahunt, Nolan North, Elijah Richardson, Milly Shapiro, Allison Scagliotti, and Jessica Treska. Behind the camera, the show is written and executive produced by Matthew Scott Kane (Stitchers) and David A. Goodman, who previously worked on The Orville.
