Exclusive Plan B Trailer Announces Release Date for Jon Heder & Jamie Lee Rom-Com
When is the release date for Plan B?
Having been acquired by Quiver Distribution for North American distribution, Plan B will be released on VOD and digital outlets on September 27, 2024.

“Plan B follows a woman (Lee) who becomes unexpectedly pregnant after a one-night stand with her awkward neighbor (Heder) but impulsively decides to sleep with a successful businessman to pass off the baby as his,” the synopsis for the movie reads.

Heder is best known for playing the titular character in 2004’s Napoleon Dynamite. He’s also starred in movies such as 2006’s The Benchwarmers, 2007’s Blades of Glory, 2007’s Surf’s Up, 2014’s Reality, 2015’s Christmas Eve, and, most recently, 2024’s Thelma the Unicorn.

Lee, meanwhile, is known for playing Ali Reissen in HBO’s Crashing. She also wrote a number of episodes for Crashing along with television shows such as Ted Lasso, The Pete Holmes Show, and more. She’ll next be seen in a new Prime Video comedy series called Unsettling, which she co-showruns with Aseem Batra.

The cast of the movie also includes Tom Berenger (Platoon, Sniper), Shannon Elizabeth (American Pie, Scary Movie), and Kate Flannery (The Office). Tamburri co-wrote the script with Jean S. Monpére and serves as a producer alongside DJ Dodd and Erika Hampson.

Plan B held its premiere at the Mammoth Film Festival earlier this year. Tamburri was nominated for best director at the festival, while Lee was nominated for best actress.
Plan B is a charming and heartfelt comedy that delivers a refreshing take on the classic romcom formula. Directed by Brandon Tamburri, the film follows Piper Brennan, played by the effortlessly talented Jamie Lee, as she navigates the complexities of an unexpected pregnancy and the search for the perfect partner to start a family with. The film's premise may draw comparisons to Knocked Up, but Plan B quickly establishes its own identity, offering a different perspective and a unique blend of humor and emotion.

Jamie Lee shines in the role of Piper, bringing both vulnerability and wit to a character who is easy to root for, even when she's making questionable decisions. It's clear that Lee was born to play this role, and her performance is a standout, making you curious to see more of her work beyond her impressive writing credits. Jon Heder, as the awkward neighbor Evan Ebert, delivers a performance that is equally funny and endearing. While he occasionally slips into his iconic Napoleon Dynamite persona, Heder brings a surprising depth to the character, proving that he has more to offer as a leading man.

The film's supporting cast, featuring Shannon Elizabeth and Kate Flannery, brings a unique flair to the story. However, there are times when Flannery's improv-like delivery feels a bit too on the nose. While Elizabeth's brief appearance can be somewhat distracting, it doesn’t significantly detract from the overall enjoyment of the film. We’ve certainly come a long way from American Pie.

One fun surprise was spotting Anthony Moore during the Lamaze class scene. Having loved his performance in the Netflix show Tires, it was great to see him here, and I could definitely get used to seeing him in more roles.

Tamburri, known for his work on Heredity, demonstrates his versatility as a director, skillfully balancing the film's humor with its more emotional moments. The pacing is brisk, keeping the story engaging from start to finish, and the emotional payoff in the finale is genuinely moving. The film does lose its way slightly in the second act, but it manages to pull everything together by the end, leaving viewers satisfied.

Plan B may not break new ground in the romcom genre, but it does what it sets out to do exceptionally well. It's relatable, sweet, and filled with heart, making it an easy watch for fans of the genre. While I personally enjoyed it, I feel that this film might resonate more with audiences like my mom, wife, or sister. Nevertheless, it's a solid entry in the genre, and I'm excited to see what Brandon Tamburri does next.

Full Synopsis reads: After a fun night out, rebellious writer Piper (Jamie Lee) drunkenly sleeps with her awkward neighbor, Evan (Jon Heder), and winds up pregnant. When she attempts to tell Evan the news, Piper quickly realizes that he’s not the long-term guy for her and the baby. After receiving news from publishing exec Jane (Kate Flannery) that her dream of a book deal is coming to fruition, she needs to find a stable relationship – and quick. Going against the advice of her best friend Maya (Subhah Agarwal), Piper opts to keep the pregnancy a secret until she can find a more successful guy to sleep with and hopefully start a family.

After a few failed and comical attempts at finding a match, Piper stumbles into Cameron (Michael Lombardi), a financial advisor and regular at the café she works at. Everything appears to be going as planned as Cameron falls for Piper and is ecstatic about the pregnancy. Cameron introduces Piper to his parents Joe (Tom Berenger) and Diane and fends off advances from his flirty boss Anne (Shannon Elizabeth) along the way. While juggling her double life, Piper continues to bump into her neighbor Evan, who has no idea that he is the father of her soon-to-be-born baby. However, Piper’s evil scheme starts to unravel when she starts second-guessing herself, realizing that she could be making the biggest mistake of her life.

DJ Dodd, Owner of Future Proof Films, added: “We are very proud of the film we’ve made through the immense hard work of all of our cast and crew. Making this film has been a fun ride, and we can’t wait to introduce it to the world.”
