"After years of being imprisoned and facing a 175-year sentence with no effective appeal, I finally chose freedom rather than an impossible right.

Justice for me has now been served as the US government has put it in writing in their agreement that I cannot file a complaint with the European Parliament of Human Rights or even a Freedom of Information request about what they did to me as a result of their request for information.

I want to make it clear that I am free today not because the system worked, but because I pleaded guilty to journalism.

I have pleaded guilty to soliciting information from a source. I have pleaded guilty to obtaining information from a source, and I have pleaded guilty to informing the public of that information. I have pleaded not guilty to anything else.

I hope that my testimony today can highlight the weaknesses in existing safeguards and help those whose cases are less visible but equally at risk.”
