On September 3, 2024, a police-involved shooting took place outside a Walmart in Colorado Springs. The incident began when officers spotted a stolen vehicle in the store’s parking lot. When the occupants, a man and a woman, exited the store, police approached them. The man, identified as 29-year-old Tyler Ben, pulled a handgun from his waistband during the confrontation, prompting one of the officers to fire multiple shots. Despite efforts to provide medical aid, Ben was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman who was with him was detained, interviewed, and later released without charges. No bystanders or officers were injured in the incident.
