Ubisoft Delays Assassin's Creed Shadows Due to Bugs, But Are They Just Trying to Break Even?

A fresh rumor claims that Assassin’s Creed Shadows—which was initially set to launch in November 2024—has been delayed until February 14, 2025, because the game is reportedly "buggy." Ubisoft recently made the announcement during a financial update, confirming that Assassin’s Creed Shadows would hit PS5, Steam, and other platforms just in time for Valentine’s Day.

The game promises to be the biggest entry in the franchise, featuring dual protagonists—Naoe and Yasuke—who each bring unique gameplay styles. While many were excited to experience Assassin’s Creed Shadows gameplay, it appears the delay is largely tied to Ubisoft’s desire to polish the game after the buggy release of Star Wars Outlaws.

Ubisoft’s press release also revealed a significant departure from the traditional Season Pass model. Instead, all players will get to enjoy the game at launch, and those who preorder will receive the first expansion for free. The highly anticipated Assassin’s Creed Shadows trailer might have painted a promising picture, but now many fans are left wondering if this delay is a sign of deeper issues within Ubisoft.

Brazilian YouTuber tvPH reported the delay stems from internal problems related to bugs—something that has plagued previous Assassin’s Creed titles like Unity and Origins. According to tvPH, the game’s new internal technology is causing glitches, much like in earlier installments. However, unlike Ubisoft’s calmer days during Assassin’s Creed Unity, the company now seems to be on edge, especially after the underperformance of Star Wars Outlaws.

Despite the hype surrounding Assassin’s Creed Shadows Japan setting, rumors suggest the delay isn’t just about fixing bugs but also about Ubisoft’s attempt to salvage the year financially. Analyst Valliant Renegade speculates that the company’s decision to push back the AC Shadows release was motivated by their need to avoid a financial disaster before the fiscal year ends in March 2025.

He noted that once Ubisoft canceled their press events, including skipping the massive Tokyo Game Show, it became evident that Assassin’s Creed Shadows would face a delay. Ubisoft’s financial guidance has been revised downward, and many believe they’re scrambling just to break even before the fiscal year wraps.

It’s not the first time a major Assassin’s Creed title has faced delays, but fans are getting frustrated. With expectations sky-high for Assassins Creed Shadows PS5 and its rich Japan setting, Ubisoft needs to ensure the final product lives up to its promises. As of now, many are wondering if the Assassin's Creed Shadows controversy will end up overshadowing the game itself.

With black assassins creed shadows now set to launch in February, Ubisoft’s handling of legitimate criticism has been met with skepticism. Many fans fear that Ubisoft is brushing off real feedback as just more “toxic gamer talk,” a strategy that could alienate their core audience.

Will Assassin’s Creed Shadows avoid becoming another buggy mess like its predecessors, or is Ubisoft in for another flop? The gaming community will be keeping a close eye on the Assassins Creed Shadows season pass, its post-launch content, and whether or not Ubisoft can pull off a smooth release.
