Ubisoft Devs Call Legit Criticism ‘Toxic,’ Proving They’re Totally Out of Touch!
Ubisoft is facing major internal issues, as alleged developers have revealed that the company routinely dismisses legitimate criticism from gamers, labeling it as “toxic gamer talk.” According to reports, Ubisoft’s DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) policies have not only contributed to a growing disconnect between the company and its player base but also led to a brain drain within the development teams. Talented and experienced developers are reportedly being pushed out, leaving inexperienced employees to take senior positions, which is resulting in a noticeable decline in game quality, creativity, and technical expertise.
One of the biggest criticisms came after Japanese gamers voiced concerns about Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Ubisoft's upcoming title set in Feudal Japan. Instead of engaging with the feedback, Ubisoft allegedly ordered developers not to discuss the matter publicly. The company’s decision to focus more on inclusivity and “progressive” narratives than the actual gameplay experience has left many players, particularly longtime fans of the franchise, feeling frustrated and unheard.
Ubisoft’s handling of Assassin’s Creed Shadows has only added fuel to the fire. The game, which has already been delayed multiple times, is under heavy scrutiny for its controversial character design choices and a focus on DEI over historical authenticity. The introduction of Yasuke, a real African samurai, has been met with backlash, as many fans feel that Ubisoft is using him to push their social agenda rather than delivering an immersive Feudal Japan experience.
The internal issues within Ubisoft’s development teams are becoming more evident with each release. Reports suggest that senior engineers and creative talent are being overlooked in favor of promoting junior developers with limited experience. This constant turnover is leading to games with more bugs, weaker design, and a lack of passion across the board.
As Assassin’s Creed Shadows continues to be delayed, many fans are losing faith in Ubisoft’s ability to deliver a quality product. The decision to ignore player feedback and push divisive narratives has left a growing divide between the company and its audience.
In addition to Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Ubisoft has faced backlash across several projects, with developers reporting that the company is more focused on meeting financial objectives through casual player sales than addressing the concerns of its dedicated gaming community. If Ubisoft continues down this path, they may soon face a bigger exodus of both players and developers, further damaging their reputation and the quality of their games.
