Come to Hünenberg! We have unicorns!
Several Zug municipalities are trying to put their advantages in the right light with moving images by means of an image film. zentral+ has dared to make a comparison. Found a lot of potential. And wondered about dancing unicorns. What do you do as a municipality to polish up your own image? A community film is commissioned. In the canton of Zug, five municipalities have afforded this. With different quality standards and very different budgets.
The latest film in the genre of "advertising film" has just been released by the municipality of Risch Rotkreuz. And it fulfills its task. Because once you have seen it, you suddenly understand why people want to live in Rotkreuz. And that's kind of scary. But the nature around Risch seems so lush and green, the sky so blue, the people who are interviewed are terribly nice. And all copies are covered by good neighbors. The entrepreneur, whom we also get to know as a likeable family man. The friendly, somewhat conservative couple next door who invite you to a barbecue. The blonde girl who likes gymnastics and horseback riding. And for the quota: the former expat who presents his ode to Risch with a charming English accent. Meanwhile, a golf commercial is running in the background.
With emotionality to more inhabitants
It became a film that is both close to the people and creates emotions with professional shots and suitable music. After all, that was also the goal, explains the Risch municipal clerk Ivo Krummenacher. "The medium of film is omnipresent today. This is intended to give interested parties easy access to the municipality."
The only question is: What does such a film bring to the community at all? "Ultimately, that's difficult to say. I think a well-made film can be partly responsible for someone moving to a certain church. But that would almost have to be investigated empirically," says Krummenacher. So the film convinces with good quality and various aerial shots. Probably wasn't cheap. "The implementation cost 40,000 francs," explains the Risch municipal clerk.
Sounds like a lot, but compared to other image films, it is rather in the lower range.
"That's incredibly beautiful."
The city of Zug, for example, produced a ten-minute film in 2013 that cost 60,000 francs. You won't find a link on the Stadtzug homepage, a YouTube search will take you to the two-minute short version. As with the Rischer film, four protagonists have been worked with here, who are supposed to depict Zug's mixed population. With a Parktower resident: "When I look outside, I see the Rigi, the Pilatus and other mountains. That's incredibly beautiful." A taxi driver who is happy about how personal Zug is. A mother who lives up to the cliché at the market and buys cherries and with the Delilah singer Muriel Rhyner: "Zug isch mini Heimet." In addition, there are the obligatory sunset pictures printed.
Why can only the short version be found on the Internet? "We always show the film at the newcomers' event. That's why we didn't want to spread it too widely," says Zug's communications officer Thomas Gretener. Now, however, since the film is almost three years old, they are thinking again about whether the whole film should not be on the Internet.
"We didn't want to make an image film in the classic sense, in which we show beautiful pictures of Zug and praise the city in the highest tones."
Thomas Gretener, City of Zug Communications
Gretener emphasizes about the film: "We didn't want to make an image film in the classic sense, in which we show beautiful pictures of Zug and praise the city in the highest tones. Rather, we tell stories of people and show the city from a different perspective." Anyway. In any case, mountain views, sunsets and Chriesi images have made it prominently into the film.
Dancing unicorns in the flower field
But not all municipalities make use of classic images. The municipality of Hünenberg, which released a new film last year, has deliberately opted for a completely different form of image film.
Specifically, it is about dancing unicorns. A rural and an urban one. Excuse me? Sounds completely absurd, but it is related to Hünenberg's coat of arms, in which two such creatures are depicted. In the film you learn almost nothing about the community, except about the various locations shown. The Hünenberg director Michael Werder, who created this film, explains: "Although you are not smarter after the film in terms of facts and figures, there is a lot hidden in the film. Topics such as rurality and the city, industry and agriculture come up again and again."
"The film is only intended as a decoy."
Michael Werder, director of the Hünenberg film
The film includes a homepage and on this you can find all the facts and figures about the municipality of Hünenberg. "The film is only intended as a decoy," says Werder. And the reactions to this rather unorthodox work? "They were mostly positive. At least after people have exceeded their expectations."
And what did Hünenberg pay for it? "80,683 francs," it says. And this despite the fact that they had worked with sponsors and the director waived part of his salary.
Dancing unicorns in the field and on the playground. This is certainly not everyone's cup of tea. However, Werder stresses: "Let's be honest. Facts and figures have been forgotten right away anyway. The current film, on the other hand, was a topic of conversation for many."
Baar and Steinhausen pay nothing
They don't want to invest as much love as Hünenberg has put into his unicorns in Baar and Steinhausen. On the contrary. The Baar image film, which can be viewed on the official website of the municipality, is obviously of inferior quality. The municipal councillor Andreas Hotz stands in front of the town hall with a purple striped tie and tells a little wooden how great the community is. Elevator music rumbles in the background, the film footage corresponds to the quality of last year's smartphone model.
In addition, there is fibbing. "Above the roofs of the bustling village centre rises the church of St. Martin." The traffic-congested village street is shown. Anyone who has ever been to Baar knows: Life takes place elsewhere. At the train station. At the kebab stand. In the indoor pool. But certainly not in Dorfstrasse. Item.
"In view of the austerity measures, there will be no new film in the near future. That's not possible."
Walter Lipp, Baar municipal clerk
The Baar municipal clerk Walter Lipp puts the rather bland video into perspective: "The film was free of charge for the municipality." How so? "Behind this is the company 1A. TV. This offers the municipalities to make an image film for them free of charge. The financing works because local companies shown in the film pay for their performance." The municipality of Steinhausen has also chosen the same solution for itself. An image film that doesn't come across as exciting at all and is free of charge. And that is likely to remain the case for the time being, at least in Baar. "In view of the austerity measures, there will be no new film in the near future. That's not possible."https://www.zentralplus.ch/
