PS5 Pro: Sony’s $700 Rip-Off – Why This Console is a Total Scam!
Sony just announced the PS5 Pro, set to release on November 7th, 2024. With a staggering PS5 Pro price of $699.99, it promises 4K 60fps gaming, better ray-tracing, and improved specs, but let's be real—what are we really getting for the cost? At that price, with no PS5 Pro disc drive included (which costs an extra $80), many gamers are asking if it’s worth upgrading from the regular PS5.
For almost $800, including the disc drive, you’re approaching the price of a high-performance PC—one that’s future-proof, customizable, and can play games at higher frame rates and fidelity than the PS5 Pro will ever manage. As @Okami13_ on X put it bluntly, for just a few hundred dollars more, you can build a mid-range gaming PC with free cloud saves, cheaper games, and access to PC Game Pass, giving you hundreds of titles, including PlayStation 5 exclusives that often hit the platform 1-2 years after release.
So, what are we really paying for? A slightly smoother frame rate on titles like Horizon: Forbidden West and Gran Turismo 7, which are already playable on the regular PS5? No major PS5 Pro games or next-gen exclusives were announced to take advantage of this supposed powerhouse console, leaving us with the same old games, slightly polished. Yay?
Sony’s lack of new titles to showcase the PS5 Pro’s specs is baffling. By failing to deliver a major PS5 Pro reveal game, Sony has not only missed an opportunity to prove the console's worth, but they’ve also alienated a portion of their audience who expect more from a so-called “next-gen” upgrade.
Given the PS5 Pro leaks, it’s clear this was a cash grab. Instead of innovating, Sony is doubling down on a mid-gen upgrade nobody asked for. And don’t even get me started on the PS5 Pro rumors surrounding the lack of backward compatibility improvements or the extra cost for basic features like a disc drive.
Why should gamers invest in this half-hearted upgrade when for $500 more, they can get a superior PC setup, complete with free online, better mods, and higher performance?
For those still stuck on last-gen consoles, the PlayStation 5 Pro might seem like a worthy upgrade, but for those already owning a PS5, it’s an unnecessary, overpriced piece of hardware that feels more like a marketing ploy than an actual innovation. Instead of focusing on what gamers really want—great games—Sony is pushing overpriced tech, forcing consumers to spend more without delivering a real step forward.
In the end, this release shows Sony is out of touch with what the gaming community actually needs. Whether it’s the outrageous PS5 Pro price, the underwhelming performance boost, or the lack of PS5 Pro games, it’s time for Sony to rethink its strategy and give gamers what they deserve.
Key PS5 Pro features like ray tracing, 4K 60fps performance, and more are simply not enough to justify the price point. Maybe it’s time to skip this so-called "upgrade" and invest in something with real value—like a PC.
