Xi Jinping’s father was persecuted by Mao Zedong and the Xi family suffered during the Cultural Revolution. However, Xi Jinping is steering China back to the ideological Maoist era. To understand what makes Xi Jinping today, we must know his experience during his formative years in Yan'an. In 2004, Xi gave a lengthy interview about his struggles in Yan’an when he received “re-education” from poverty-stricken peasants.
