Ubisoft Share Price Tanks After Star Wars Outlaws Flop
Ubisoft’s stock has plummeted to its lowest in 10 years, dropping over 10% in just two days following the release of Star Wars Outlaws. Despite Star Wars Outlaws topping UK sales charts, beating major titles like Hogwarts Legacy, Elden Ring, and EA Sports FC 24, the game's overall performance is underwhelming. Industry expert Christopher Dring noted that while Outlaws launch sales are 55% lower than Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, they are still 15% better than Ubisoft’s Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.
Early signs indicate Star Wars Outlaws is struggling to resonate with audiences. True Trophies reported that Star Wars Outlaws ranked 25th on the Most Popular PS5 Games chart in its debut week, trailing behind games like Elden Ring, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Helldivers 2. Even Ubisoft’s own Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege performed better, raising concerns about Star Wars Outlaws gameplay appeal and overall reception.
A report from Side Scrollers Podcast revealed the pre-order numbers for Star Wars Outlaws were dismal. Craig Skistimas, host of the podcast, claimed a major retailer saw only 41 pre-orders for the game across 27 locations in a major metropolitan area, reflecting a massive lack of hype.
Ubisoft's stocks fell to €15.50 following the release of Star Wars Outlaws, marking a low point since 2014, with the market cap dipping to €1.99 billion. Industry analysis has been harsh, with Star Wars Outlaws receiving a "generally unfavorable" user score of 4.9 on Metacritic, while the Star Wars Outlaws review data struggles to paint a better picture.
J.P. Morgan adjusted its sales forecast for Star Wars Outlaws, cutting projections by two million units, now expecting only 5.5 million copies sold by March 2025. The lackluster performance of Star Wars Outlaws highlights growing issues for Ubisoft, as the company continues to face backlash over its handling of the Star Wars Outlaws gameplay and reception from both fans and critics.
The game's failure to gain traction has also spurred controversy, with many blaming the involvement of Sweet Baby Inc. Known for working on various titles, Sweet Baby Inc. is now facing backlash for their role in Star Wars Outlaws, with some critics labeling it a Sweet Baby Inc. woke disaster. The Star Wars Outlaws controversy continues to escalate, with players voicing concerns over glitches, uninspired gameplay, and a lack of compelling story elements.
Despite the strong Star Wars Outlaws trailer and initial excitement, the game's performance is falling short of expectations, raising questions about its future success. With Star Wars Outlaws reviews painting a grim picture, many are left wondering whether the game can recover or if it will join the ranks of titles like Star Wars Outlaws PS5 failures and other disappointing releases.
