Assassin's Creed Shadows: Nobody’s Pre-Ordering Ubisoft’s Latest Flop!
Ubisoft's "Assassin's Creed Shadows" appears to be heading for a massive flop, as rumors of disastrously low pre-order numbers continue to circulate. According to insights shared by Stuttering Craig from the Side Scrollers Podcast, a major national retail chain with over 900 stores has reported fewer than 800 pre-orders for "Assassin's Creed Shadows" across both Xbox and PS5. This shocking statistic averages out to less than one pre-order per store, painting a grim picture for what was supposed to be a blockbuster addition to the Assassin's Creed franchise.
The troubling news doesn't stop there. Digital pre-orders for "Assassin's Creed Shadows" on the PlayStation Store are also lagging behind other titles, indicating that even online interest is weak. These low numbers come on the heels of similar disappointing reports for Ubisoft's other major release, "Star Wars Outlaws," which also faced embarrassingly low pre-order figures. Craig's source revealed that "Star Wars Outlaws" managed only 41 pre-orders across 27 stores in one of the most densely populated regions of the United States, further underscoring the growing disillusionment with Ubisoft's offerings.
The backlash against Ubisoft isn't just about low pre-orders—it's about the direction the company has taken in recent years. Gamers are increasingly vocal about their dissatisfaction with what they perceive as Ubisoft's overemphasis on politically correct, 'woke' content. The integration of DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) initiatives into game development has been a hot topic, sparking controversy and debate within the gaming community. Critics argue that this focus on social and political messaging has come at the expense of gameplay quality and innovation, leading to a decline in interest and enthusiasm for Ubisoft's titles.
"Assassin's Creed Shadows" is not just facing a potential commercial failure; it's emblematic of a larger issue within the gaming industry. The backlash against Ubisoft's 'woke' agenda is part of a broader conversation about the role of political and social narratives in video games. Titles like "Assassin's Creed Shadows" and "Star Wars Outlaws" are increasingly seen as products of an industry more concerned with ticking the right boxes than delivering engaging, high-quality gaming experiences.
As Ubisoft faces mounting criticism, the gaming community's patience is running out. Gamers have made it clear that they want less focus on politically correct content and more on delivering the immersive, action-packed experiences that made franchises like Assassin's Creed iconic in the first place. However, unless Ubisoft takes this feedback seriously and makes significant changes to its approach, "Assassin's Creed Shadows" might just be the latest in a line of disappointing releases.
